Saturday Looks Good To Me is the name of a bunch of songs. They are here to realize joy and attempt at better things. In 2000 there was a 12″ made on a small record label called Hereforeveralways. That was pretty much the group’s introduction to the world. Two years later all the 12″s were gone, and there were more songs, so there was a CD made, and even a few live shows around Michigan, Ann Arbor where the band all lived and Detroit, where they visited and
in those days mostly drank. After playing a few shows, SLGTM went on a big, ridiculous US tour with Saves The Day, Ash & Kind Of Like Spitting. It was fun, eye-opening, foolhearty and more than anything, it opened a box that has not been closed since, even if it’s just a box that you take something out of and put another thing into sometimes. In 2003 Polyvinyl Records put out “All Your Summer Songs”, a record a few websites called “THE BEST RECORDED SOUND EVER TO GRACE MORTAL EARS” and others called “annoyingly twee, derivative of the J. Geils Band.” In 2004 PV dropped “Every Night”, the difficult third record. In between this, about twenty different versions of the band were touring nonstop, playing houses, huge bars, small dives, outside thingers, really any and everywhere. It was fun, if always really different. In 2005 one such version of the band played a long winter tour in Europe with Swedish pop geniuses Speedmarket Avenue. It was again ridiculous and more fun than anyone should be allowed to have. The band was also making lots of songs inbetween records and releasing them as 7″s, cassettes, CD EPs, what have you. In 2005 Redder Records put out a collection of 30 extra songs called “Sound On Sound”. In late 2007, after many months of revision, K Records put out “Fill Up The Room”, an album that was super different and met with either responses of
diluted anger, or “shit, this is the best one yet!” or more often “it took me a minute, but now i like it the most.” So mission accomplished. Then a video was made, and it looks super 80’s and fancy. The band loves to tour, play shows, make music and communicate, whoever “the band” might be at present. Those are the prerequisites. We try to get back to everyone who messages us here, but it’s really difficult, so please don’t hit us up here with anything super important, cause it could take a while to get back. Instead, write to the band at
westsideaudio (at) hotmail (dot) com. and a response should come faster.

The Black Atlantic is former Shai Hulud and current Miscreants vocalist, Geert van der Velde’s collaborative indie rock project / band. It started as a project with his best friend, Menno Vos (drums) but quickly turned into something more serious after Geert recorded his first song in February of 2006. The song was a Valentine’s gift to his then girlfriend, now wife. Recording ‘Send This Home (a letter in sonics)’ and the subsequent label interest after the song’s debut on Myspace gave the project the momentum that it needed to fully come alive.
In January of 2007 The Black Atlantic made it’s first live appearance at the Eurosonic Festival, one of Europe’s biggest independent music festivals / showcases. Since then the band has toured and played shows with various line-ups up until the current line-up.Robert Koole (drums) and Arjen de Bock (piano) have been with the band since the European / UK tour in April, May. Matthijs Herder (bass) has been with the band since August and has steered the band through their recent new recording endeavors at his Paperboat Studio
resulting in a 3 song demo including the new song, “Madagascar”, that is currently up for
listening.
Robert and Matthijs are both also active in progressive and psychedelic rock outfit Oceana Company The Black Atlantic’s debut EP “Send This Home” was recorded in the early fall of 2006 by Geert with the help of various contributing friends (no current members of the band).
It was picked up early 2007 and released in the US by Five Point Records (NY)and will be available in Germany through Midsummer Records early 2008. Geert will be back out on the road solo / acoustic in Europe and the US for the remainder 2007. The full band will start touring again early 2008 and then concentrate on writing The Black Atlantic’s debut album, as of yet untitled

Reviews of Sharron Kraus‘ Songs of Love and Loss:
M.J. Fine, Philadelphia Citipaper: Best Local CDs of 2004
Recorded in her native Oxford, the second album from Fishtown transplant Sharron Kraus is a dark-folk gem. Listening to her high, clear voice cut through melodies woven from acoustic guitar, banjo and hurdy-gurdy, you may struggle to remember which late-’60s traditionalists beat her to the material. But with one small exception, these murder ballads and forest laments all come from Kraus’ pen. Here’s one folklore expert whose originals feel both authentic and alive.
Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
* * * *
… Songs of Love and Loss is another winner; it may not be as startling as its predecessor since listeners have a frame of reference, but in its textures, dynamics, and sheer minstrelsy, it is even stronger.
Byron Coley & Thurston Moore, Arthur Magazine
Exquisite second album by this wonderful singer. She conjures up visions of Karen Dalton, Shirley Collins, Judy Dyble and even early Joni. Live she was fantastic too.
Rough Trade
The second album from Oxford’s fabulous Sharron Kraus is a wonderful follow-up to the haunting debut ‘Beautiful Twisted’. … this moves from traditional folk (in a Shirley Collins, Anne Briggs style) to her own songs and enchants all the way. An immaculate album from a major new singer.

Long Conversations: Writing songs, on and off, since he was thirteen, Olaf finally started taking his music seriously two-and-a-half years ago. Since, he’s been writing songs for his band Jalowski, and performing solo stuff on an irregular basis. After being rejected by the Rockacademie, he ran into some old friends from high school, who just started their own record label, in august 2007. They offered to work with him without having heard a single note of his music and the collaboration resulted in a four-song demo.

Narrominded is a music label run by a group of friends in The Netherlands. We release records and mp3’s through shops, mailorders and our website. We started out with cd-r releases, but since 2002 we make vinyl, cd’s and since 2005 we make mp3’s for free download as well. Until 2005 we have focused our attention on electronic music, but we have decided to no longer hide our love for rock music (and –now that we’re breaking down some barriers- every other music for that matter). Most of our artists perform their music on stage and feel at home in every kind of venue from squats to museums.
